Practical approaches to quality
enhancement in mass higher education,

Around 36 senior staff from Universities and HE policy agencies both
in the UK and overseas will come together for an intensive 48 hours of
interviews, discussion, argument and study. As an output, each
participant will draw up, and test out with fellow participants, a
list of recommendations for practical action to take back into their
own institution. There will be no conventional presentations. Part of
the event will be run as a "committee of enquiry", with
teams of participants conducting interviews with a number of invited
expert witnesses to inform their subsequent discussions on particular
issues related to quality enhancement. The seminar is designed so that
participants will engage in active task-based learning before, during
and after the event. It will be structured with some of the features
of a ‘consensus’ conference.

Conference organized by Nuffic and the Ministry of Education, Culture
and Science and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This conference will
concentrate on two major EC initiatives to increase the attractiveness
of Europe for students and researchers: the Guidelines for the entry
and residence of third country nationals for the purposes of study and
research and proposals for a Careerpolicy. Questions: How do these
policies relate to migration law? How do they relate to the labour
market? How is the private sector involved or can it be involved?

XII World congress of comparative
education,

The branch of Comparative Education of the Cuban Pedagogues
Association Hill organizes this congress on behalf of the World
Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES). Spanish, English
and French will be the official languages, and simultaneous
translation will be available. Comparative Education is currently
undergoing a renaissance because of the influences of globalization,
and the need to respect diversity and stimulate international
cooperation for developing education for all throughout life. This
congress will contribute to knowledge of education favouring
cooperation and contributing to the notion of ‘Education for All
throughout Life’ sponsored by UNESCO. The motto of the Congress
is: “Being Cultured is the Only Way of Being Free”. This
motto embodies an idea expressed by the Cuban patriot and thinker, José
Martí, which is of great importance and application for the
development of education and society. From this idea, the XII Congress
proposes as a main theme: ‘Education as a Factor for Just
Integration and Social Development’.
